The Shipping & Receiving Clerk will be responsible for verifying, documenting, and coordinating the movement of incoming and outgoing shipments. This role ensures shipments are prepared accurately, safely, and efficiently, maintaining inventory and records to support smooth logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify and maintain records of incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accuracy against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other documentation.
- Determine appropriate shipping methods and ensure proper labeling of cartons, including affixing shipping labels or stenciling identifying information.
- Prepare shipments by assembling and selecting containers (wooden, cardboard, or preassembled), packing items securely, and stamping or attaching shipping instructions.
- Calculate weights, shipping charges, and affix postage as needed.
- Unpack and inspect incoming shipments for damage, record shortages, and communicate with shippers to resolve issues.
- Route incoming shipments to appropriate departments or storage areas.
- Examine outgoing shipments to ensure compliance with specifications and order details.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies, ensuring availability for operations.
- Safely operate hand trucks and other equipment to move shipments within the shipping/receiving platform, storage areas, or workspaces.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or a similar logistics role preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when verifying shipments and documentation.
- Ability to lift and move items as required (physical fitness is necessary for this role).
- Basic understanding of shipping software, labeling tools, and inventory systems.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Reliability and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
