Job Overview:
A Material Handler is responsible for efficiently and safely moving materials, products, and supplies within a warehouse or production environment. This role ensures that items are stored, organized, and delivered to the appropriate areas for processing, production, or shipping. Material Handlers play a crucial role in maintaining the flow of goods within the facility and ensuring that inventory is accurately tracked.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Handling:
- Safely move, load, unload, and organize materials, products, and supplies within the warehouse or production area.
- Use forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual handling techniques to transport goods to designated storage areas.
- Stack and arrange products in a way that ensures easy access, proper organization, and compliance with safety regulations.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by tracking material movement, quantities, and storage locations.
- Perform periodic inventory counts and assist with inventory audits.
- Identify discrepancies in stock levels and report them to the warehouse supervisor or manager.
Receiving and Shipping:
- Receive incoming shipments, verify quantities and quality of materials, and compare them with purchase orders or shipping documentation.
- Prepare and pack materials for shipping, ensuring that items are safely loaded and ready for transport.
- Coordinate with other team members to prepare and complete customer orders for timely delivery.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety procedures to prevent injuries while handling materials and operating equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, free of hazards.
- Ensure materials are handled and stored in compliance with company and regulatory safety standards.
Equipment Operation:
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, or conveyors, following safety guidelines.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition.
General Warehouse Support:
- Assist with general warehouse tasks such as sorting, labeling, and packaging materials.
- Assist with order picking and packing as needed.
- Work with team members to meet daily production and shipping goals.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in material handling, warehousing, or a related field is preferred.
- Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain one) may be required.
- Basic understanding of warehouse operations and inventory management.
- Ability to read and interpret shipping and receiving documents (e.g., packing slips, purchase orders).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs or more.
- Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable operating equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) and handling materials in a fast-paced environment.
