Summary

The Fishing Reel Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of fishing reels, including spinning, baitcasting, conventional, and fly reels. This role ensures high-quality workmanship, excellent customer service, and efficient turnaround times for reel service and repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble fishing reels of all types.

  • Diagnose mechanical issues such as grinding, noise, poor drag performance, or casting problems.

  • Repair or replace parts including bearings, gears, handles, spools, drag systems, and level winds.

  • Calibrate and tune reels for optimal casting performance and drag smoothness.

  • Document completed work, parts used, and service recommendations.

  • Maintain an organized workspace and proper inventory of tools and replacement parts.

  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding repair needs, costs, and completion timelines.

  • Stay updated on new reel models, parts, and manufacturer specifications.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with small mechanical systems.

  • Prior experience in reel repair, fishing equipment service, or related mechanical trade (preferred).

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with small parts.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical problems independently.

  • Good communication and customer service skills.

  • Familiarity with major fishing reel brands (e.g., Shimano, Daiwa, Penn, Abu Garcia, Okuma).

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on detailed tasks.

  • Manual dexterity for fine mechanical work.

  • Use of small hand tools, cleaning solutions, lubricants, and precision instruments.
